Please join us for the first concert of our 2017-2018 season!

“Unique” is the word that best describes the opening concert of our 16th season.

The WHSO will present a concert version of Richard Chiarappa’s musical “Lincoln and Booth” performed twenty years ago on Kingswood Oxford’s Roberts Theater stage. Originally written for ten-piece orchestra, the two hour musical has been re-orchestrated for full symphony orchestra and condensed to forty-five minutes. Chiarappa and narrator Michael Dunne have been working together this past summer to create a text that will explain the historical aspects of each song. Eleven singers will be joining the orchestra for this new version.

We are honored to have radio talk show host Brad Davis as narrator for “The Gettysburg Address for Symphony Orchestra and Narrator.” A consummate performer, Brad wowed the audience three years ago when he delivered the dramatic reading of this piece, leaving few dry eyes in the audience.

In keeping with the historical theme of this concert, the WHSO will perform Aaron Copland’s “Lincoln Portrait,” as well as “Ashokan Farewell” from the Ken Burn’s movie “The Civil War.”
