President’s Message

Ron Resiner, President, WHSO

Dear Symphony Supporter,

The WHSO, as you may know, is composed of volunteer musicians, ranging from ages 14 to 88, talented amateur and professional musicians alike. The glue that holds the orchestra together is a love for music and the desire to share that music with the community. The music ranges from classical masterpieces like Brahms Symphony No. 2 to musical hits like Phantom of the Opera, and of course includes rousing patriotic pieces like John Philip Sousa’s The Stars and Stripes Forever.

Our 11th Season “The Next Decade” is an exciting extension for the WHSO. Our sound has never been better and the musicians are enthusiastic about expanding our repertoire to give you, our supporters, more musically challenging compositions. We also will continue to be featuring composers and soloists from around our community.

The WHSO strives to involve and be involved in the community. This season we plan to share the stage with some local church and synagogue soloists and the Kingswood Oxford High School choirs. Prior season guest performers include the West Hartford Women’s Chorale, Conard and Northwest Catholic choirs, and award winning “I Giovani Solisti” high school string orchestra. We are also very proud to be making last year’s very successful Children’s Concert for West Hartford’s third graders an annual event. The excitement of the 1000 plus students, many of whom have the chance to sit amongst the orchestra, is contagious!

In order to continue to offer these programs the WHSO needs your help. While the WHSO musicians donate their time, there are unfortunately many other costs incurred to hold our concerts. Concert hall rentals, music rentals, publicity costs and numerous other operating expenses quickly add up, and while ticket revenue defrays a portion of these costs the majority of our operating budget comes from individual donations.

I respectfully ask that you please consider making a tax-deductible gift to the WHSO. Any contribution, large or small, is much appreciated and can be initiated through this Web site, via standard mail or at a WHSO concert. If your employer has a matching gift program, please include the matching gift form when donating, or use your employer’s matching gift Web site.

With the continued generosity, volunteer support and concert attendance of music lovers like yourself, the WHSO can continue to bring live orchestral concerts and outreach programs to our community.

I look forward to seeing you in the audience once again in our eleventh season!

Sincerely yours,

Ron Reisner
